EFL Cup: Mikel, Moses Missing As Chelsea Fall To West Ham
West Ham defeated Chelsea 2-1 to advance into the quarter-finals of the English Football League Cup at the London Stadium on Wednesday night.
Nigerians Victor Moses and Mikel Obi were not included in the Chelsea squad for the game.
Cheikhou Kouyate gave West Ham the lead in the 11th minute, heading in Mark Noble’s fine cross past Asmir Begovic.
In the 48th minute Edimilson Fernandez doubled West Ham with a low left-foot shot.
Gary Cahill grabbed a late goal for Chelsea but West Ham held on edge the Blues out.
At the St. Mary’s Stadium, Victor Anichebe made his first start for Sunderland but fired blanks as they were pipped 1-0 by Southampton.
The only goal of the game was scored by Sofiane Boufal.
